I just finished editing and proofreading a wonderful fantasy novel called The Lustre. When approached by writer Kate Policani, I was thrilled at the opportunity to edit a fictional story. Little did I know I would get so wrapped up in the plotline and characters that I'd almost forget I was editing!

First, a little about the story from Kate's website, http://katepolicani.com/the-lustre/:

"Hidden within Human society is an entrancing race of beings who look just like us. They are the Akataromai. Originating on Earth, they conceal themselves, blending within the Human population. Though they appear to be Human, mature Akataromai live for centuries and feed upon negative Human emotions. Angelina Quorra is an Akataromai, a Human-looking girl who might never die. But Angelina is unique among her people, absorbing pain as well as emotion and giving anyone who feeds her overwhelming pleasure. This is her story, told by the men who adore her. Her talent is called The Lustre, bringing her great fame, and great trouble."

Kate writes in a way that slowly weaves the story, always keeping you wondering what will happen next. The way she reveals more and more about the Akataromai made it hard to stop reading. There were several moments when I literally gasped and put my hand over my mouth! Kate uses creative, descriptive words to develop the characters and set scenes. As I read, I fell in love with Angelina and was sad when the story ended.
